Accessibility Commitment
I want everyone to be able to use EconGoat, including people with disabilities. The lessons, quizzes, and blog posts here are for anyone curious about how the economy works.
I aim for a site you can use as independently as possible, whether you read with your eyes, a screen reader, or a magnifier, and whether you get around with a mouse, a keyboard, or a touch screen. I keep improving its accessibility and usability as the site grows.
Scope
This Accessibility Statement applies to the EconGoat website, including the lessons and quizzes, the blog and its research roundups, and the emails the site sends.
Accessibility Standards (WCAG 2.1 AA)
EconGoat aims to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA.
Accessibility is part of how the site is designed and built, not an add-on. Pages use real headings, lists, landmarks, and form labels, so assistive technology can make sense of them, and colors are chosen for readable contrast in both light and dark mode.
Accessibility Features
The site includes:
- A "Skip to main content" link at the start of every page, so keyboard and screen reader users can jump past the menu.
- Keyboard access to everything, including the menu, the newsletter sign-up, the home page slideshow, the quizzes, and the photo viewer on blog posts.
- A clearly visible focus outline that shows where you are when you move around with the keyboard.
- A dark mode, switched with the button in the header and remembered on your device.
- Less motion when your device asks for reduced motion, and a pause button on the home page slideshow.
- Lessons built from headings, lists, and captioned tables, and quizzes that work without JavaScript.
- Text alternatives for images, with purely decorative images hidden from screen readers.
- Pages that adapt to phones, tablets, and computers, and to zooming in.
These features help everyone use the lessons, the blog, and the newsletter.
Ongoing Improvements
Accessibility is a continuous process, and I keep it in mind whenever I add a page, a lesson, or a feature.
Some content may not yet fully meet the standard. The limitations I know about:
- Photos in blog posts are described by their caption or by the post's title, which is not always a full description of the picture.
- Lessons and research roundups link to pages and papers on other websites, often PDF files, whose accessibility I do not control.
If something gets in your way, please tell me. Reports from readers are the quickest way to find what I have missed.
Accessibility Feedback and Continuous Improvement
Your feedback helps me find barriers and decide what to fix first. I use it to:
- Identify accessibility barriers.
- Prioritize improvements.
- Improve how new lessons and pages are written and built.
I aim to acknowledge accessibility feedback within a reasonable time and to deal with each report according to how much it affects your access.
Providing Accessibility Feedback
If you run into an accessibility barrier or would like to suggest an improvement, please email me.
Email: privacy@goatecon.com
When possible, please include:
- The page or lesson involved.
- A description of the issue encountered.
- The browser, device, and assistive technology you are using, if applicable.
- Any recommendations for improvement.
I welcome your feedback and will make reasonable efforts to review concerns and make improvements where appropriate.
Requesting Another Format
If you need a lesson or page in another format, such as plain text, or help getting to any content on the site, email me at the address above and I will do my best to provide it.
To help me respond, please include:
- The page or lesson you are trying to use.
- The format or help you need.
- Any relevant assistive technology you are using.
Third-Party Content
Lessons, blog posts, and research roundups link to other websites, such as the sources I cite and the papers I summarize, and the footer may link to EconGoat on social media.
The accessibility of those websites is the responsibility of their owners, and I cannot guarantee the accessibility of content that is not under my control.
